Beatson Consultant Oncologist honoured at Scottish Women's Awards 2023

Dr Ioanna Nixon, Clinical Director for Specialist Oncology Services based at Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, has been named as a winner at the Scottish Women’s Awards 2023.
Dr Nixon was given the accolade for her work in Medicine, focussing on her work as a Consultant Oncologist as well as her fund-raising activities for cancer charities.
Throughout her career, the Thessaloniki-born clinician has taken inspiration from the father of Classical Greek medicine.
She said: “There is a quote by Hippocrates that says ‘Where there is a love of medicine, there is a love of humanity.’ This quote resonates deeply with me and my story.
“I am humbled, honoured and grateful to have won this award, celebrating the successes of so many women, who like me are devoted to improving the lives of people, directly or indirectly. “My priority and mission is to foster excellent, timely, person-centred care for patients, and promote workforce wellbeing.
“My aim is to help and support anyone with ill-health, through evidence-based education and practical tools to improve their wellbeing and resilience and feel empowered and in control, driven by science and compassion.”
Liane McGrath, General Manager Specialist Oncology Services, said: “This is a well-deserved honour for Ioanna and we are delighted that her work has been recognised in this way.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Director Regional Services Susan Groom added: “We know that our staff at the Beatson often go above and beyond what their job involves and it is wonderful that this kind of dedication and commitment, which Ioanna has shown, has been recognised outside our organisation.”
