Beatson cancer treatment helpline
The helpline provides access to specialist oncology advice for patients on, or within 6 weeks of, treatment at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre (BWoSCC).
It is manned by Acute Oncology Assessment Unit (AOAU) nursing staff, 8am to 8pm, seven days a week. Out with these hours, all calls are diverted to the NHS 24 National Cancer Treatment Helpline.
All patients on chemotherapy and radiotherapy will receive the number on an alert card and advice about when to use it (for urgent issues).
When calling the helpline, patients will be assessed on the phone and directed to the most appropriate place depending on their needs, time of the call and where they live. This will usually be either a local hospital, GP or AOAU.
